Our Medical Practice

With over 35 years of experience, I have been trained in numerous evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, Brainspotting, hypnosis, EFT, addiction treatment, and Gottman Method couples therapy, and many more. The interventions themselves are only tools. The most effective aspect of my work is my ability to integrate these approaches around the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit a particular model.

Transformation occurs because I do more than provide insight—I help clients experience change. Through intensive, experiential work, clients leave with a deeper understanding of themselves, practical skills, and corrective emotional experiences that create lasting shifts rather than temporary symptom relief.

I bring a calm, grounded presence that allows people to feel emotionally safe, often within the first few moments of meeting them.

My clients consistently experience someone who is fully present—not rushing to solve problems, but willing to sit with them in difficult emotions without judgment or discomfort. This creates an environment where people can finally lower their defenses and begin telling the truth about their experiences.

I also bring clarity to complexity. Many clients arrive feeling overwhelmed, confused, or stuck in repetitive cycles. Drawing from decades of clinical experience, I help them connect the dots between their past experiences, current patterns, emotions, nervous system responses, and relationships. What once felt chaotic begins to make sense, which often reduces shame and increases hope.

Depression & Anxiety

Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.

Trauma & PTSD

Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing. Dr. Dan also provides crises debriefing around the Nation as needed to help in the aftermath of traumatic event.

Relationships

Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Research consistently shows that having a good relationship is better to your physical health and longevity than exercise. Therapy sessions are held with both couples and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.

Life Coaching

A Trained provider with significant experience as a life coaching on-line, in person or via telephone. This service is designed for persons without a mental diagnosis but could still benefit from direction and focus in life, relationships or career.

Clinical Supervision

Dr. Dan is a qualified supervisor for candidates pursing post degree clinical supervision in addiction recovery, counseling and relationship counseling and psychology.

About Dr Dan

Therapeutic Belief

Beginning therapy can create some anxiety because various myths and stigma exist around people wanting to change. Dr. Dan believes that "healthy people go to counseling" because it is the healthy people that recognize when events are repeating themselves, when they are unhappy or acting in ways that they don't want to. Healthy people recognize when it is time to go and shake things up and get back into life and love.

Academic Training

After receiving a Bachelors in psychology, Dr. Dan practiced as a substance abuse counselor for many years before going back to college for a Masters. After 8 years beyond graduation for his Master Degree, he decided he needed to know more and went back for a Doctorate. He holds licenses in Illinois and in Wisconsin as a Licensed Psychologist, Licenses Professional Counselor and Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor.

In addition to the above licenses, Dr. Dan has had trainings and/or certifications in: Trauma focused care including but not limited to EMDR, Brain Spotting and Trauma Focused CBT care; Additions including substance abuse, compulsive porn use, and gambling; various mental health and emotional regulation approaches including CBT, Adlerian, Psycho dynamic, brief therapy, and hypnotherapy.

Experience

Dr. Dan has successfully worked in various settings over the past 35 years including inpatient and outpatient programs. He is a tenure college professor providing instruction to students in pursuit of Master or Doctorate Degrees. By using his academic training, research and practice experience, he can combine them into a powerful and life changing counseling experience.

Insurance or Self Pay

Insurance: As a courtesy, the office will forward invoices to your insurance company on your behalf. We are in network with many insurance entities. Be aware that your actual insurance company sets the therapy rate. Deductibles, co-pays and coinsurance may be required and is set up by each insurance carrier and each plan. In order to know in advance of your out-of-pocket expense, contact the number on the back of the insurance card. Dr. Bishop is a “doctorate” level “mental health outpatient” provider.

Some of the insurances he is covered under various commercial plans through: Anthem, Dean, Auxiant, Alliance, UMR, United Health Care.

Self-Pay: If you don’t have insurance or don’t wish to utilize your insurance, a reasonable self-pay rate is available at $130 for in-person or telehealth sessions.
